Some of y'all might know rapper/producer/saxophonist Terrace Martin, but for the people who don’t here’s something about him:
Martin
came up in ‘04 as a producer for West Coast artists, he has produced for
artists like; Nipsey Hussle, Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Murs, Warren G, Talib
Kweli, Glasses Malone, Kendrick Lamar, and produced with people like DJ
Quik, Pete Rock, 9th Wonder, Battlecat, & Hi-Tek.
In ‘07 his
first mixtape dropped, called Signal Flow, he continued making mixtapes
and dropped 3 more over the years, with all of them having legendary
West Coast artists on them like Kurupt, DJ Quik, & Snoop Dogg.
In an interview he stated: “I started producing hip-hop tracks because it was the music of my time, but I never lost my love for jazz.”
And
this is what I wanted to talk about, I want to bet most of y'all heard
Kanye West’s 808s & Heart Breaks. Well Terrace Martin released an 5-track
EP with saxophone covers of tracks off 808’s & Heart Breaks called
808s & Sax Breaks.
I was able to find 3 out of the 5 tracks on Youtube, and I really really liked them, knowing the original songs adds a lot
more flavour to the covers because you recognise stuff, the 3 tracks I found
were “Heartless”, “Say You Will”, & “Amazing”, the other two tracks on it
are “Love Lockdown”, & “Street Lights” but I just couldn’t find
them.
So I told y'all what I think of this, but what do you people think?
Heartless // Say You Will // Amazing
